| Castrol's TLX Range
Forward to extended engine protection even under extreme conditions.
Description
Castrol TLX lubricant range are high performance diesel engine oils for use in marine medium speed 4-stroke engines
and stationary power applications operating on residual fuel. Castrol TLX is produced using highly refined base oils and
advanced additive technology
The TLX range meets all the requirements demanded from a high-quality lubricant. As demonstrated in extensive field
testing, the range has shown excellent and robust performance – even under the most extreme conditions (high load,
high sulphur fuel, low lubricant oil consumption, and low system oil volumes). The selected dispersant and detergent
system effectively control fuel contaminants and promotes engine cleanliness.
Application
The TLX range is available in 20, 30, 40 and 53 BN suitable for use in engines operating on a wide range of fuels;
ULSFO, VLSFO, HSFO, including dual fuel engines switching between residual fuel and LNG.
Available in both SAE 30 and SAE 40 viscosity grades to suit engine builders' requirements, the Castrol TLX range is
specifically developed for use in modern marine medium speed propulsion engines and auxiliary power generation.
The range is also suitable for land based stationary power generation applications operating under high engine load
running on high sulphur fuel.
Advantages
Engine protection - excellent wear and corrosion protection for cylinder liners, pistons, rotating components, and
bearings, ensuring reliable service operation to maximise the time between maintenance intervals.
Excellent cleanliness, even under extreme conditions - high detergency performance protects against deposit
accumulation in critical areas such as the piston undercrown, cooling galleries, the piston ring belt area, and the engine
crankcase.
Effective oil treatment properties - removal of contamination, oil sludge and water during purification and filtration helps
keep the oil in optimum condition and protects the engine from corrosion and wear.
Robust thermal and oxidative stability – protects against lube oil degradation, oil thickening and deposit formation.
TLX 5-40 is a 53BN grade specifically for use in high sulphur residual fuel marine and power station applications. The
higher base number helps to maximise the time between refreshment and oil drain intervals.
Castrol TLX is formulated and proven in field testing to offer protection under demanding service conditions. This
includes high load in combination with high sulphur fuel and low lubricating oil consumption.
Protects cylinder liners from excessive wear and bearings from corrosion, whilst the carefully selected detergent and
dispersant system maintains engine cleanliness in service.

Additional Information
The TLX range has been awarded no objection letters by the major medium speed engine manufacturers including, but
not limited to; Wartsila, MAN and MaK.
For full listing of equipment approvals and recommendations, please consult your local Castrol sales or technical
representative.
Compatibility has been assessed across all grades of Castrol engine oils. Users should adhere to changeover
guidelines (TB5909) and OEM recommendations on mixing.
Storage
All packages should be stored under cover. Where outside storage is unavoidable drums should be laid horizontally to
avoid the possible ingress of water and the obliteration of drum markings. Products should not be stored above 60C,
exposed to hot sun or freezing conditions |
